Script
Narrator: It is time in the order of business to approve the minutes. The minutes were distributed to members at the start of the meeting.
Chair: The next item of business is the approval of the minutes. The minutes were distributed to members at the start of the meeting and if there is no objection (without objection), the minutes will not be read. Are there any corrections to the minutes?
Member A: Mr./Madam Chair, this is Member A!
Chair: Member A. (The Chair recognizes Member A).
Member A: Mr./Madam Chair, I would like to point out that my name is misspelled in the list of members who were in attendance in the last meeting.
Chair: Without objection (If there is no objection), the spelling of the member’s name will be corrected. Are there any further corrections to the minutes?
Member B: Mr./Madam Chair, this is Member B!
Chair: Member B. (The Chair recognizes Member B).
Member B: I would like to point out that the date for the annual fundraising dinner is incorrect. It reads May 12th, however the correct date is May 15th.
Chair: Without objection (If there is no objection), the date in the minutes will be updated to read May 15th. Are there any further corrections?
Narrator: (Optional) No further members seek recognition.
Chair: There being no further corrections, the minutes are (stand) approved as corrected. (and will be filed with the Secretary). The next item of business is…
Narrator: This completes the scenario.
Author’s note: Notice that we do not need a motion or to take a formal vote on approving the minutes, as is often incorrectly done in meetings. In the unusual case of an objection to unanimous consent on minutes’ correction, the correction can be handled by majority vote.
